Deep in the vaults of an ancient Priory, a monstrous creature awakens… a Cockatrice is born! Knights flee in terror from its deathly gaze. Perhaps the nuns of the Priory will have to face the beast alone…
The Tale of the Cockatrice is a fun, fascinating journey into truth and legend, monster and myth! Two players spin a yarn straight out of English folklore in this frantic fusion of puppetry, storytelling and live, original music. Inspired by folk tunes and fables, Peafrog Puppetry blends the old and the new in an exciting piece of original theatre for all the family.
Peafrog Puppetry's visit to The Lyric is self-described as a 'polished scratch performance', so although it will be nearly nearly the finished show, they will still be open to picking audiences' brains after the show!
Peafrog Puppetry is made up of Katie Underhay and Anthony Burbridge. They create compelling, original theatre with the aid of oddball puppets, live acoustic music and general tom-foolery! Using a range of puppeteering disciplines from Japanese bunraku to marionettes to sock puppets their aim is to create diverse, thoughtful and immensely fun theatre designed for everyone.
The show starts at 7pm, and will last around 45mins to an hour with some time for Q&A afterwards. It's aimed at all ages but particularly 9-10 year olds, though nothing in it is too scary for younger ones!
This performance will be on a ‘pay what you can’ basis, on the door from 6:30pm.
